THE GREBE SYNCHROPHASE

The Grebe Synchrophase was one of hundreds of 3-Dial TRF radios made in the mid 1920s. The main drawback of the 3-dialer was apparently solved by loosely linking the 3 tuning dials internally using chains. But no matter. The Grebe's claim to fame is its design, making it among the most valuable of its type. The MU1 and MU2 were made from Sept 1924 to Sept 1927. See Dave Whistler's Synchrophase site for more.

I found this Grebe Post Card in a Los Angeles thrift store. Addressed to KFI-AM, it is dated 1925 and is a "QSL" from a Reno listener.

According to Harold S. Greenwood's 1961 book, "A Pictorial Album of Wireless and Radio, 1905-1928," The Grebe Synchrophase sold for $125 in 1925. Today, one in good condition can get twice that amount. Greenwood spelled Synchrophase wrong.
If I could own one more Grebe Synchrophase, this would be the one. According to Dave, the Grebe expert, this is the Model 55, made briefly in 1928. It used the MU series cabinet and chassis, but the big news was the front panel, a nifty redesign. Remember, it was style that made the Synchrophase unique, set it apart from all the others. I'll take one, please.
