The James Maxwell Memorial Reference Library & W6CF

Former CHRS member Jim Maxwell had amassed one of the largest libraries anywhere of all things radio, electricity and electronics. Jim was a Silicon Valley engineer, a leader in the A.R.R.L., and along with wife Trudy, a trainer of personnel in the use of emergency radio. He held amateur call W6CF. We are on the air with his equipment and call from KRE.

We made our first "official" contacts from W6CF on Saturday, July 16th, 20 meters, around 14250, running 100 watts SSB into a vertical at the KRE site. See the photos of the KRE Live! Event.

W6CF

CHRS has acquired Jim Maxwell's W6CF call as a club license. Contact license trustee John Staples for information.

We have the station operating now from the KRE Building.

The 2003 CHRS Charles Herrold Award "for outstanding achievement in the preservation and documentation of early radio" for was presented to Trudy Maxwell.

In addition to the donation of the library, Mrs. Maxwell has also donated Jim's ham equipment and his license, W6CF, and that historic call will someday transmit from the KRE building.
