"LIVE! at KRE 2005
An event to benefit CHRS"

July 16th, 2005

Here are some photos from our Big Event. Music, Legends of Broadcasting, a radio auction, W6CF and more, all to benefit CHRS.

Our news team was Wayne Light, Richard Look, Scott Harvey and Marianne Haller. We thank them. Check back often for more photos of this Big Event.

And CHRS Raised $11,314. Thank you

From President Steve: "Live at KRE 2005" was a BIG Success! Thanks to all the volunteers, donors, performers & participants As we came across the Bay Bridge at 6:45 am on Saturday morning the 16th, we saw the traffic alert sign, "Major accident ahead. All lanes closed at Ashby Ave." This can't be good. We took the Powell exit and came around Shellmound until the Berkeley police had the road blocked at Ashby. This wasn't good either. After much nice talking to the police officers, we were allowed to drive to KRE. From then on, things ran pretty well although we decided to start 1/2 hour late due to the extreme traffic mess in the area. Some people were stuck in traffic for an hour.

We had lots of people in attendance, about 170. The weather could not have been better. We had a terrific group of volunteers who really made this happen. From carrying stuff out of the building to setting up canopies & chairs to staffing the food service, flea market & auction, ham station, stage & audio, safety, the gate & CHRS table, transmitters, clean up & bringing the coffee, our volunteers did an outstanding job. They really made this event run well. Thanks to you all!

The live music was first rate. We are grateful to Frankye Kelly, John Dills & the Tamsen Donner Band for donating their services. Thanks also to the Broadcast Legends, Ken Ackerman, CB Smith, Norm Howard (Lehfeldt), Ben Williams, Ed Vasgersian & Alan Young for their nostalgic live rendition of the classic radio show, Gunsmoke. And of course a large thank you to our MC, Carter B. Smith.

The auction went pretty well. We learned a lot for next year. The flea market was a hit. The first contacts by W6CF were made. And, we were pleased to have Trudy Maxwell present for the event. The food was great. Thanks to the Aidells Sausage Co. for their donation. Thanks to Erick Steinberg and Dave Joseph for KFRC & KVTO transmitter tours.

Thank you to all who donated to the auction, and a special thanks to Andy Kaplan who became the next $1000 donor on our list. Considering that the Traffic Gods were against us, CHRS did very well this day. Our goal was to raise $10,000 and CHRS raised $11,314! Thanks to you!

Some comments from you: What a swell day. Thanks to you and Janice and everybody who helped. Best, Norm Lehfeldt My wife and I had a very nice time and went home with a very nice Zenith 5s127 and the Fairbanks Morse Desktop unit. Both work nicely. Thanks for the great day! Wayne Light I enjoyed yesterday's auction very much. It's the first year I've been able to attend & hope never to miss another one. Thanks again to you and all those members who helped to make this such a enjoyable and successful event. Jerry Hansen
This was a really fun event. Marianne Haller Great event! I stayed for a little over an hour, and I enjoyed the museum exhibits and the walk-through of the building. You guys are doing amazing work. Harry Osibin Overall, it was a great event, and I really enjoyed it. Steve, thanks again for a terrific event. I think everyone appreciates the planning and effort that went into it, and if we can make it even better in the future, that's wonderful. Cheers, Tom Albrecht
It was a lot of fun! Although I didn't win any bids it was great to hang out and see everybody.
All best- Kent Leech
