LIVE! at KRE continues to be a major source of our funding for the year. The 2011 event was dedicated to the memory of our good friend Carter B. Smith, who we lost in January 2011. With hundreds in attendance, a great auction, good food, music by Frankye Kelly and the Radio Daze Band, the Lone Ranger, performed by the Broadcast Legends, a tribute to CB Smith hosted by Ben Fong-Torres and featured guest speakers Frank Dill, Mike Cleary, Greg Sherwood, Clark Reid, Kim Wonderley, Celeste Perry, Stan Bunger, Clayton and Blake Smith, an enormous electronic flea market, displays by Jon Kummer of Antique Radio Classified and the son and grandson of Peter L. Jensen, inventor of the loudspeaker, interviews with Frank Dill, Mike Cleary and Ed Baxter, made this quite a day for radio. At the event, Bart Lee, John Schneider, David Jackson and Mike Adams became ‘CHRS Fellows in History’ and Scott Robinson, John Staples and Steve Kushman were made ‘CHRS Fellows in Preservation’. We took in $18,131 and CHRS / BARM netted $10,270. Not bad for a days work. Remember that none of this could have happened if not for the hard work of a dedicated group of volunteers including members from our CHRS Central Valley and CHRS Sacramento Chapters. Save the date for this year’s event: Saturday, July 21st, 2011 for, “Live! at KRE – RADIO DAY BY THE BAY 2012.” Thank you!

  1. Members of the Northern California Region of the Cadillac & LaSalle Club visited KRE on Sunday, March 31st. The report was that everyone enjoyed seeing the old radio station in such good shape, with a myriad of radio related memorabilia to view. Thanks very much for allowing our group to visit your facility!
